Joomla! 1.6 was released on Jan. 10th 2011. We tracked it progress through 2009 & 2010. It was at times antagonizing we had some very big plans around the new ACL etc.

So we put our new Joomla 1.6 website out on 1.6 in the first week. Why? not to tout our shiny new website and use all these great technical features for ourselves. No we where excited because it would allow us to make it easier for us to help you realize your dreams. Wow that was quick! We waited for at least 2 years with expectation that 1.6 will be here in the next month, no soon. So what is the story? This is the first release made within the new six-month release cycle that started with the delivery of Joomla 1.6... This is a move that will support the platforms growth and development in a very mature and professional way. There will be a stable trunk of development and more important a group of people who are continually moving the platform forward.
